CREATIVE WRITER
FREELANCE WRITER/EDITOR
Canadian Freelance Guild (CFG)
I stepped into the film and television industry in 1985 and for 15 years thereafter, developed an eclectic grounding in everything from theatrical and TV drama to documentary and performing arts. Starting at the bottom, I gained experience in many different roles on set, from Production Assistant to Continuity to Assistant Director…
I soon found a niche in Production Management and went on to Line Produce several award-winning documentaries shot on location in West Africa and Indonesia.
In the early 1990s, I entered the Performing Arts world and, for seven years, Associate Produced “The Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards” for the CBC/SRC, the Canadian version of “The Kennedy Center Honors” in the US.
In the late 1990s, I returned to my original passion (writing) and completed a Master of Fine Arts in Film/Screenwriting, completed three feature length screenplays and worked for a cross-section of clients as a story editor.
In 2005, drawing on my undergraduate degree in journalism, I started writing feature articles, profiles, and reviews for a number of national magazines and periodicals on topics ranging from business and health to sports. I also designed and provided content for a number of websites.
Between 2001 to 2022 I was an active volunteer member of the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP). Fully trained as an Advanced Medical Responder, much of my free time throughout the year was spent helping injured skiers, runners and cyclists. In 2010, I joined their national communications team as a consulting editor for their national newsletter. In 2013, I stepped into the national Director of Communications role and worked to rejuvenate and create a consistent and integrated national presence for the CSP online.
For the past decade, while continuing to work, I’ve been following my interests and developing skills in creative writing, specifically short fiction and creative non-fiction.
As of March, 2025, I am finally in a place where I can dedicate my full focus to writing.
I can’t wait to see where it takes me.
