An anthology of stories from our past
In 1941, Dr. Doug Firth was asked by the Canadian Amateur Ski Association to organize and train a first aid group to patrol the hills and golf courses in southern Ontario. they sent him to a meeting to study what the National Ski Patrol in the United States was doing and the Canadian Ski Patrol was born.
Those were the days of ski touring and hill climbing. People would cross-country ski for miles from the train drop-off point just to get to the hill. Once there, they would have to climb if there was no rope tow available. The ski industry and the Canadian Ski Patrol have come a long way.
This first edition has been compiled from numerous sources in an effort to sustain and convey to future generations the history of the Canadian Ski Patrol (CSP) in general, Kawartha Zone in particular.
